Here is what is on the upstairs light racks right now. Lots of sweet potato slips from last year's vines, microgreen trays for the chickens and guinea pig, and houseplants that I am babysitting for a client friend for several weeks. I have been enjoying this time of rest and planning!

Native feverfew smiles happily in the front yard. I cannot imagine a DIY bouquet that would not benefit from it! The plant was a medicinal workhorse to Native Americans who used it to treat all manner of ailments.

Hollyhocks are blooming. Like these guys and want them in your u-pick cup or in a pre-made bouquet? In order to be a good cut flower, they should be scorched at the stem cut before being set in water. We are happy to do the initial scorch here. You can scorch the stems at home using a bunsen burner, gas stove, candle, lighter....anything with an open flame.

I share pictures often of the flowers that we have in abundance. After all, the u-pick customers want to see what is available! But every gardener has a plant or two that is special to them.

This lavender plant is one of my special plants. I assisted it years ago to grow from a seed. (Who am I to say that I can grow anything??? The seed grows itself!) It is not a large, splashy lavender like you see in the magazines, but a smaller, sweeter variety. I like it a lot!

Today, I snipped this cupful of blossoms from my lavender plant, and I will let them dry to be put in future gifts for people special in my life. No worries here about being without fresh lavender until next year! The flowers should rebloom once or twice again this growing season.
